Syracuse, N.Y. — Garrett Williams is the first of Syracuse football’s eligible draftees to share he’s been invited to the 2023 NFL Combine.

Williams posted a screenshot of the invitation email to his Instagram Story on Friday with the caption, “Thank you God.” The cornerback had declared for the NFL Draft on Dec. 15, forgoing his remaining eligibility.

The combine will take place Feb. 26 through March 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

It is unknown how much Williams will be able to participate in the combine as he continues to recover from a torn ACL he suffered on Oct. 29 against Notre Dame. The recovery timeline for the injury is eight to 12 months, according to the Mayo Clinic.

At the very least, Williams would be able to go through physical evaluations, testing and interviews at the combine. He could also do the bench press and potentially even the vertical and broad jumps depending on his recovery status.

Williams was an integral part of Syracuse’s secondary for three years. In the seven games he appeared in as a captain in 2022 before his injury, Williams recorded 36 total tackles, one sack, two interceptions and five passes defended.

He was named a Freshman All-American by The Athletic in 2020 and received multiple All-ACC recognitions throughout his collegiate career.

Despite his injury, Williams is a Top 100 draft prospect according to Pro Football Focus and was named the No. 8 eligible cornerback by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. He’s projected to go in the third round according to the NFL Mock Draft Database, with an overall rank of 72 and a high of 30.

A number of other Orange players declared for the draft and could receive combine invitations, including running back Sean Tucker, offensive lineman Matthew Bergeron and linebacker Mikel Jones.
