Crews begin tearing down historic Gold’s Building in downtown Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The partial demolition of the historic Gold’s Building in downtown Lincoln has begun.

The building, which has stood at the corner near 11th and O Streets since 1924, is being redeveloped to “maintain habitability.”

According to the city’s redevelopment plan, the rehabilitated building will include about 183 multifamily housing units.

Crews have already begun tearing down a part of the south tower at 11th and N Streets.

The north tower, along with an uninhabitable building at 1023 O Street, will also be redeveloped.

Officials say the goals of the project include strengthening the “long-term viability” of downtown Lincoln and supporting the “revitalization” of O Street.
