McCormick Recalled_2568x1444

With back-to-back games before the All-Star break begins Sunday, the Kraken recalled forward Max McCormick Friday from American Hockey League affiliate Coachella Valley. McCormick, captain of the Firebirds, was named AHL Player of the Week last Monday for his stretch of four goals and four assists during three Coachella wins.
In a corresponding move, defenseman Justin Schultz was placed on the injured reserve (IR) list. The summer free-agent signee has missed the last three Kraken games.

The first-year expansion team Coachella Valley leads the AHL's Pacific Division and has the best overall record in the 32-team league, headlining a top-five rounded out by such venerable franchises as the Hershey Bears, Toronto Marlies, and Providence Bruins. McCormick is tied with forwards Andrew Poturalski and Jesper Froden for the team scoring at 42 points. His 18 goals is second to Froden's 22 and his 24 assists is second to Poturalski's 31.
"Max is a key player for our team and we are thrilled to see his success," said Dan Bylsma, Firebirds head coach. "He comes to the rink every day with the effort and attitude that makes him a special player."
McCormick has already set career season-highs in goals, assists, and total points as a professional in just 37 games. The 30-year-old played in 10 Kraken games last season and has 93 NHL appearances (eight goals, five assists) with Ottawa, Carolina, and Seattle. He has played for six different AHL teams (including Kraken inaugural-season affiliate Charlotte) with 100 goals and 129 assists in 419 games played). McCormick was drafted by Ottawa in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Draft and signed as a free agent with Seattle in late September 2021.
