Former trustees Figueroa, Branch awarded honorary Mott Community College degrees

FLINT, MI – Mott Community College honored two former Board of Trustees members with honorary degrees at the first meeting of the new year this week.

Anne Figueroa and Anthony Branch, who both recently ended their terms as trustees, were given an honorary associate degree and resolution of appreciation at the Jan. 23 meeting.

Figueroa led the board in 2022 after being elected in 2016.

“Mrs. Figueroa has been a stalwart of leadership and advocacy for progress within the MCC community,” the resolution of appreciation read.

MCC debuted its Workforce Promise and opened the new Lenore Croudy Family Life Center both took place under Figueroa’s leadership.

Branch was appointed to the board of trustees in Oct. 2021 after a resignation. The Flint Beecher high school head football coach helped form the new public works certificate program.

“Mr. Branch has been a beacon for Mott Community College as shown through his commitment and involvement throughout the Flint and Beecher communities. Branch has always been a leader and role model to his peers and is a shining example of the best our community has to offer,” the resolution read.

The rest of the meeting filled with controversy as the newly elected Chair Andy Everman was caught on a live microphone using an explicit term with a staff member.

Rumors around Mott Community College President Beverly Walker-Griffea’s position were also addressed.
