Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale bosses have confirmed that there will be huge repercussions for Mackenzie Boyd after his affair with Chloe Harris is exposed.

As viewers already know, Mackenzie is the father of Chloe's unborn baby, following a one-night-stand between the pair last year, with guilty Mack desperately trying to hide the news from his fiancée Charity Dingle.

Now executive producer Jane Hudson and producer Laura Shaw have revealed that the fallout from Mack's actions will be huge, lasting up to the New Year.

"I think one of our big stories is Charity, Mackenzie, Chloe and that triangle," Hudson said in a YouTube video exploring the soap's upcoming storylines.

She continued: "We are a soap – it's not a question of 'will Charity find out that Mack's the baby daddy?' It's 'when will she find out?'

"And she is going to find out and it's going to be explosive. There will be massive repercussions for all those characters, which will carry us right into 2024."

While the pair remained tight-lipped on the specifics of what will happen, they're excited for viewers to see the storyline play out.

"I'm smiling because I know what happens and I'm excited for everyone to see it!" added Shaw.

While the pair didn't reveal when Charity will discover the truth, upcoming episodes of the soap will see Mackenzie fearful that he has been rumbled after Charity is left shocked by a mysterious phone call.

Meanwhile, Charity actress Emma Atkins has also spoken about the storyline, revealing that she thinks it will be the end for the couple.

"I shouldn't imagine they'll be able to stay together if and when it does come out. That's a shame in a way as I love working with Lawrence. But who knows, maybe she would find it in her to forgive him," she said.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
