First-look pictures for Prime Video's The Power, starring Knives Out and Hereditary's Toni Collette, Encanto's John Leguizamo, and Moana's Auli’i Cravalho, have been released.

Based on Naomi Alderman's hugely-acclaimed novel, the supernatural series sees teenage girls all over the world suddenly developing the ability to electrocute people at will, leading to the power balance of the world to be completely reversed.

Following characters from London, Seattle, Nigeria and Eastern Europe, the show aims to not only tell the stories of how people are personally affected by this power, but how it affects the world as a whole.

Some specific storylines from the novel look like they are being directly adapted, as Collette and Cravalho are playing novel characters Margot and Jocelyn.

It'll be interesting to see the similarities and divergences once we get some footage and then the actual series itself.

The TV adaptation also stars Ted Lasso's Toheeb Jimoh, The Good Wife's Josh Charles, The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe's Eddie Marsan, Mr Selfridge's Ria Zmitrowicz, London Spy's Zrinka Cvitešić, and newcomer Halle Bush.

Headshot of Joe Anderton
Joe Anderton

Joe Anderton is a freelance news writer and resident Welsh person at Digital Spy, having worked there since 2016.

In his time he's covered a host of live events, interviewed celebrities big and small and crowbarred a countless amount of great/awful (delete as appropriate) puns into articles.

A big fan of TV and movies both mainstream and obscure, Joe's main interest is in video gaming. Although particularly a PlayStation gamer, he plays across Xbox, Nintendo and PC/Steam Deck, and likes to keep tabs on many games he's not got the time to play.

Joe currently does not use Twitter, but he only ever used it to tell people to watch the film Help! I'm a Fish (which you really should do).
