Cougars bring 40 top-10 conference marks into Houston Invitational

HOUSTON – The University of Houston track and field team hosts its third meet in as many weeks when it hosts 18 schools at the Houston Invitational on Friday in Yeoman Fieldhouse.

STARTING LINE NOTES
  • Houston won fourteen events at its Robert Platt Invitational meet last week. The meet was the first inaugural honoring former Houston pole vaulter Robert Allen Platt Jr. who passed away in 2019.  
  • The Cougars have 40 marks inside the top 10 of the American Athletic Conference descending order lists including seven of the top marks in the conference.
  • Five Houston student-athletes rank inside the top 30 nationally in their respective events.
  • Graduate Priscilla Adejokun's weight throw of 21.17 meters from the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational ranks 13th nationally and leads the conference.
  • Junior De'Vion Wilson ranks 20th nationally after posting the fifth-fastest 60-meter hurdle time in school history.
  • Graduate Kelly-Ann Beckford ran the third-fastest 800-meter time in school history and leads the conference after her event win at the Robert Platt Invitational. Beckford ranks 34th nationally.
  • The Houston Invitational is the third-straight home meet for the Cougars before they go on the road to the uber-competitive New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M, Feb. 3-4.
  • Junior Shaun Maswanganyi's 60-meter dash time ranks 1st in the conference and 25th nationally.
