Commercial Fire at Chattem Chemicals

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Chattem Chemicals plant had a commercial fire Friday morning. The Chattanooga Fire Department said they extinguished the fire within minutes.

They continued to cool the tank afterwards.

The fire took place around 11 a.m. on Friday.

CFD said the fire was around one of Chattem’s methanol tanks.

The CFD hazmat crew located a leak in one of the valves going into the tank, and they successfully stopped the leak.

The fire department said the plant was evacuated, and there were no injuries.

CFD said they will stay at the facility to assist Chattem employees finish mitigating the scene.

There were no hazards, CFD said.
