Jets’ Zach Wilson or Packers’ Aaron Rodgers? Rookie star is OK either way

There are rumors that the New York Jets will go after Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Will Aaron Rodgers soon be a New York Jet?

There’s lots of speculation that the Jets are trying to make that happen and that Rodgers could be the veteran quarterback head coach Robert Saleh is “committed” to finding.

Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner wouldn’t be opposed to joining forces with the Green Bay Packers quarterback. On ESPN Radio, Harry Douglas asked Gardner if he would want Rodgers on his team.“I wouldn’t mind that,” he replied. “I want what’s best for the offense but at the same time I’ve got to just focus on my job and focus on what we’ve got going on on the defensive side.”

But the rookie has been vocal about his support for Zach Wilson after a clip of Gardner playing Madden with Mike White at quarterback circulated. Many assumed this was intentional and indicated how he felt about Wilson having the job. He hyped up Wilson on “The Zach Gelb Show” Thursday, per WFAN:

“I rock with Zach, man. We chop it up every time we see each other, he’s a great person to be around. He has a lot of knowledge, he gives me a lot of knowledge since I first stepped into the building, and I’ve tried to do the same thing for him.

“He’s gone through a lot of adversity, and I know if it were me he would have my back. So it wasn’t anything like that. I wasn’t thinking of the quarterbacks – the media thinks about the quarterbacks and talks about the quarterback situation way more than the players do, especially defense.”

So Gardner is planning to continue to do his job no matter who is QB1. And that’s good news for the Jets, who drafted the 22-year-old fourth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. He’s now a finalist for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Rodgers rumors heated up after the Jets hired Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator on Thursday. Some have speculated that this hire opens up the path to acquiring Rodgers as Hackett was Green Bay’s offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2021 and worked with the star QB then.
