PITTSBURGH — Changes are coming to Lincoln Avenue and Fremont Street in Millvale after PennDOT required the borough to shut down sections of both. The borough said PennDOT recently changed its inspection process, meaning they’ll be repaired and replaced sooner than expected.
Both bridges are listed in “poor” condition on PennDOT’s website.
The borough said emergency services have been notified, including Ross/West View EMS and County 911 and that no service delay or interruption is expected.
“It’s good to know the community cares and people are maintaining things, so you know when you’re out living your normal life, that everything is safe,” said Emily Wilk of Millvale.
Community members and business owners alike said they’re glad to hear safety is a top priority.
“If they think this is dangerous for the people, we can survive even if we lose some business,” said Haroon Mirza, who owns the Millvale Café.
The borough said detour routes are likely to change, but in the meantime, drivers can utilize East Sherman Street, Grant Avenue, North Avenue, and Fornoff Street. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrians.
“Those of us who no longer drive have to walk through it all, and it’s tough,” said Richard J. Gonzales, Sr. of Millvale.
The borough said it is working with PennDOT to secure funding for the project.
