HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army of Reno County finds itself slightly shy of its Christmas 2022 fundraising goal, despite raising over $75,000 through kettle donations this season. Overall, the Christmas Campaign has made 91% of its total goal, with the campaign set to end Jan. 31.

"Current numbers put us $37,302 away from hitting our budgeted goal," said Major Paul James. "The urgency has increased with the increased cost of food for our Christmas food baskets, the additional Thanksgiving gift cards that were needed to meet the need, and just the number of families and children we’ve served this past season.”

Any donation made to The Salvation Army between now and month end will count toward the total goal.

The Christmas Campaign helps to put The Salvation Army in a position to have the cash flow to helps those in need and to keep the lights on as donations typically slow down during the rest of the year.

"We need continued support throughout the year," Major James said. "At this time, individuals might not be able to donate, but we will still need continued support for the rest of the year."

The Salvation Army in Hutchinson receives most of its financial support through local dollars. Donations help support not just the food and toys that were distributed during the holidays, but also the many services provided throughout the year.

This includes the 97 Representative Payee clients that receive support paying their monthly bills and managing their finances. It also goes toward helping families and seniors with their rent and utilities throughout the year, and toward the Pathway of Hope program that walks along side families to help break the cycle of poverty.

The Salvation Army also houses other agencies and programs at 700 North Walnut. This requires supporting them with building maintenance and utilities. This past year that required major equipment replacements, also utility costs have increased drastically.

Donations for the Salvation Army may be dropped off or sent to their main office at 700 North Walnut, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
