NOXEN TOWNSHIP, WYOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police are conducting an investigation at a property in Noxen Friday morning.
Pennsylvania State Police cruisers have been parked on a property located on Route 29 in Noxen Township, Wyoming County since Thursday afternoon. They were using heavy equipment to dig in an area at the rear of the property.
Signs on the property say this is Simon’s Automotive and Wasted Skills Automotive.
Troopers have been using a backhoe to dig in an area behind a garage on the property. Signs on the property say this is Simon’s Automotive and Wasted Skills Automotive. Investigators are not releasing details as to why they are at the property.
The Wyoming County District Attorney Joe Peters tells Eyewitness News that this state police activity is part of an ongoing investigation and that he could not elaborate so as not to jeopardize that investigation.
Peters says details will not be released as a precaution to not jeopardize the investigation. As of 2:00 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police have cleared the scene.
The I-team has also confirmed that this property was the focus of a state police investigation into a homicide in 2003. Eyewitness news reported on the homicide of a Wilkes-Barre man whose body was buried near state game lands.
John Simon and his girlfriend were convicted in connection with the homicide. They were both sentenced to prison.
Simon was found guilty of robbery and inflicting serious bodily injury. We spoke to a neighbor about today’s state police activity.
“I found out about it really what was going on when I went to the Noxen clothes closet and library. Everybody said did you see what’s going on? We can’t see very much from here. But we hear things through the grapevine,” said Wanda Kawasaki from Noxen.
We reached out to the owner of the property for comment. We did not hear back.
