One of the suspects accused of gunning down a Nashville nurse on I-440 ordered a pizza just hours after her murder, phone records from court show.
Detective Chad Gish, a digital forensics specialist with the Metro Nashville Police Department, took the stand as an expert witness Friday in the murder trial for Caitlyn Kaufman's alleged killers.
In his testimony, Gish showed the jury text messages, phone calls, and Google searches from Devuante Hill's Android phone in the hours leading up to and after the Dec. 3, 2020 shooting.
Prosecutors have said Kaufman's Mazda SUV slowed on the interstate at 6:08 p.m. when she was shot to death. At 7:32 p.m., phone records show Hill texted a friend that he was "Cooling at the house." Minutes later, he Googled "Nashville shooting."
At 12:05 a.m. on Dec. 4, Hill tracked an order for a Papa Johns pizza he had ordered.
At 2:22 a.m., Hill read a FOX 17 News story where he learned the driver he shot on I-440 was a local nurse.
Prosecutors say six rounds were fired into Kaufman's vehicle while she was driving to her shift at St. Ascension West.
Hill and James Cowan are each facing first-degree murder charges in Caitlyn's death. Both have entered not guilty pleas.
Phone data was also extracted from Cowan's phone, and the phone belonging to his girlfriend, Dimeneshia Carter. On Dec. 5, 2020, phone records show friends hosted a birthday party for Cowan at a Nashville hotel.
On the morning of Dec. 7, Carter's device connected to the suspect vehicle, a Cadillac which was later found burned. Carter was charged with harboring Cowan as a fugitive.
