A Manchester man is wanted by police after officials said he assaulted a woman and took her baby to another building in the city.
Kevin Voisine, 28, of Manchester, faces two counts of second-degree assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said officers were first called to a home on Varney Street about 9:45 p.m. Thursday when a woman reported she had been assaulted and that her attacker took her 5-month-old child. The baby was later found safe in another building.
People living near Varney Street woke up Friday to a voicemail from police telling them a baby was missing.
"We are searching for a missing baby in your area," police said in the voicemail. "We need your help. Please check your yard, complex and vehicle."
Neighbors said officers searched the area with K-9s and flashlights.
Police said they were able to identify Voisine as the suspect. They said Voisine and the woman are known to each other, but they did not elaborate on their relationship.
Police later found Voisine’s car outside a Bismark Street address, and the child was found inside that building. The child was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, officials said.
"Fortunately, the baby is doing well," said Heather Hamel, of the Manchester Police Department. "The issue right now is that they still do not know where the suspect is. We're hoping that someone may be able to spot him here in the city of Manchester or beyond."
Anyone with information about Voisine's whereabouts is asked to call 603-624-4040.
