Police Shoot, Kill Stabbing Suspect in Huntington Park

HUNTINGTON PARK (CNS) - Police shot and killed a stabbing suspect in Huntington Park, authorities said Friday.

Huntington Park Police Department officers responded to a stabbing call at 3:40 p.m. Thursday on the 2400 block of Slauson Avenue and upon their arrival the victim gave them the  description of a suspect in a wheelchair, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

After searching the area, officers located the suspect near the 1900 block of Slauson Avenue and as they tried to detain him the suspect drew a 12- inch butcher knife and threatened them by attempting to throw the knife at the officers. According to detectives, the suspect was Tased at least twice by the officers but he attempted to throw the butcher knife again at them again. Officers then fired at the suspect, who was struck by gunfire in the upper torso.

The man was treated at scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics but was pronounced dead.

Police recovered a butcher knife at the scene.
