A fundraiser on the website GoFundMe has been started to aid the two women whose apartments were destroyed in a fire on Pulaski Street Wednesday morning.

Bozena Mahmoud has set up the fundraising page with a goal of $20,000 to help the victims, Krystyna Borowska and Krystyna Zielinska, who lost everything in the fire.

The two women, both Polish immigrants in their 70s, have been part of the Polish community in Riverhead for a few decades now, Mahmoud wrote on the fundraising page.

“The fire destroyed everything they owned and they need help with every basic need, most importantly, they need a place to live,” she wrote.

As of this morning, the fundraiser, which was launched Thursday night, has drawn $1,650 in donations.
