MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker women’s basketball continues to roll in 2023 as the Lady Barons (16-5, 8-4 SSAC) grounded (RV) Faulkner (Ala.) in the SSAC Game of the Week on Thursday night.

BPC defeated the Eagles (17-5, 9-3 SSAC) in a convincing 71-46 victory to extend the Lady Barons’ winning streak to seven games.

“We are playing well defensively, and it showed tonight,” Head Coach Steve Edwards said. “I like how we are playing connected on that floor side. We will continue to improve and do all we can to play our best basketball the rest of the way.”

How It Happened | 1st Q 

Daisha Terry opened the scoring with a trey, leading to a 9-2 run for the Lady Barons in the first three minutes of play. 

The Eagles responded with a 10-4 run to pull their deficit to just 13-12 with 4:31 on the clock. 

Nearly a minute later, Sy-Marieona Williams knocked down a three-pointer to give BPC a four-point lead. 

Faulkner answered with five points across close to two minutes of play to capture a 17-16 lead with 1:48 remaining in the first quarter. 

Keonya Mincey netted the final bucket of the period at the 0:37 mark to put the Lady Barons on top, 19-17. 

How It Happened | 2nd Q 

Brewton-Parker continued to control the scoreline as Terry knocked down a bucket from beyond the arc, scoring the first three points of an opening 7-0 run to lead 26-17 with 5:44 left in the half. 

Scoring began to slow down for both teams with Faulkner scoring at the 5:33 mark and eventually scoring at the 1:49 mark to pull the deficit down to 26-22. 

Micah Bess connected for a trey, giving BPC their first score in nearly four minutes. 

After a free throw from the visitors, Samerria Bryant closed out the half with a trey ball to move the score to 32-23. 

How It Happened | 3rd Q 

A’Aliyah Clay’s opening trio sparked a 7-0 run from the Lady Barons with BPC advancing to a 16-point advantage with 8:43 on the clock. 

After a layup from the Eagles, BPC added to the tally with six more points to jump out to a 45-25 lead. 

Faulkner took back five points, but the Lady Barons continued to respond by keeping the advantage above a 15-point gap. 

BPC bested the visitors 25-14 in the quarter with Clay leading the offensive efforts with seven points followed by Angel McRae’s six.  

How It Happened | 4th Q 

The Lady Barons slowed things down in the fourth quarter but did not budge much as they bested Faulkner 14-9 in the quarter. 

Brewton-Parker scored early in the quarter and chewed off nearly four minutes of the clock before knocking down a trey from Terry to lead 62-37. 

BPC managed to boost the lead to 29 points at the 3:13 mark, leading 69-40. 

Faulkner closed out the game with a pair of three-pointers to make the final score, 71-46. 

Inside The Statistics 

As a team, Brewton-Parker shot for 40.3% (29-of-72) from the floor, 29.7% (11-of-37) from three, and 100% (2-of-2) from the charity stripe. 

Terry led the way with 12 points followed by Bryant’s 11 and McRae’s eight. 

McRae led off the glass with 12 of BPC’s 48 rebounds. 

The Lady Barons held a 48-29 edge over the Eagles off the glass. 

Madison Evans dished out five of BPC’s 16 assists. 

Other Notables 

The Lady Barons snap Faulkner’s six-game winning streak and pick up the first win over the Eagles since last season’s matchup in the SSAC Tournament in Montgomery, Ala. 

Thursday’s win marks the first victory where BPC has held their opponents to under 50 points.
