Rain returns over the weekend

WE REALLY DO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY SHAPING UP ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA. THAT’S GOING TO CARRY OVER AT LEAST INTO PART OF THE WEEKEND BEFORE WE’LL START TO SEE SOME CHANGES BY SATURDAY NIGHT IN ESPECIALLY ON SUNDAY. SO REALLY GOOD WEATHER TO START THE WEEKEND. RAIN RETURNS ON SUNDAY AND THEN IT GETS PRETTY UNSETTLED HEADING INTO MUCH OF NEXT WEEK. IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL HAVE SEVERAL DAYS NEXT WEEK THAT WILL BE WET AT TIMES WITH RAIN LIKELY. AND REALLY JUST THE WEEK AS A WHOLE LOOKS TO BE PRETTY WET WITH SEVERAL DAYS THAT WE’LL NEED THE UMBRELLA. TODAY, TOMORROW, NOT THE CASE. AND THEN YOU CAN SEE RAIN CHANCES COME UP QUITE A BIT ON SUNDAY. WE GET A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK THOUGH, ON MONDAY BEFORE WE’LL SEE ADDITIONAL RAIN COMING IN TUESDAY THROUGH MUCH OF NEXT WEEK. SO HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR NUMBERS OVER THE WEEKEND. TOMORROW WILL GET EVEN WARMER. IT WILL BE COLD AGAIN. AND I THINK SOME SPOTS WILL BE CLOSE TO IF NOT MAYBE A DEGREE OR TWO BELOW THE FREEZING MARK. OVERALL WILL BE A LITTLE BIT WARMER, THOUGH, THAN WE WERE THIS MORNING. AND THEN WITH THE RAIN COMING IN ON SUNDAY, LITTLE BREEZY TEMPERATURES NOT QUITE AS WARM, CLOSE TO 54 FOR THAT AFTERNOON. HIGH. ALL RIGHT. HERE’S A LOOK AT OUR FUTURE CASTS. WE’RE GOING TO START TO HAVE 7 A.M. ON SUNDAY MORNING. THEY’LL LIKELY BE SOME AREAS, MAYBE SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF PATCHY LIGHT RAIN AT DAYBREAK. BUT THEN WE’LL SEE IT GRADUALLY KIND OF OVER SPREAD THE AREA FROM NORTHWEST TO SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. SO I WOULD SAY BY AROUND LUNCHTIME FOR THE BIRMINGHAM METRO AREA. AND THEN AFTER THAT, AS WE GET A LITTLE BIT FURTHER TO THE EAST AND THE RAIN WILL CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON AND INTO SUNDAY NIGHT, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE COULD BE A COUPLE OF HEAVIER POCKETS OF SOME RAIN, ESPECIALLY THE SOUTHERN THIRD OF OUR AREA. SO MAYBE PLACES LIKE GREENSBORO ON OVER TOWARD BRANT, CENTREVILLE OR JEMISON, MAYBE CHILDERSBURG SYLACAUGA THOSE AREAS I WOULD THINK WOULD HAVE SOME HIGHER RAIN TOTALS, MAYBE ON THE THE ORDER OF AN INCH, INCH AND A HALF, PERHAPS SOME ISOLATED TWO INCH AMOUNTS TO BY MONDAY MORNING. BEAUTIFUL BLUE SKIES OVER BIRMINGHAM OR 46. A LITTLE BIT OF A WEST SOUTHWEST WIND UP AROUND TEN. SO THAT’S MAKING IT FEEL JUST A LITTLE BIT CHILLIER OUT THERE. TALLADEGA. WE’VE GOT CLEAR BLUE SKIES HERE, TOO. 47 IN TUSCALOOSA, 46 COLEMAN GADSDEN, YOU’RE STILL ONE OF THE CHILLIER SPOTS, BUT BY LUNCHTIME, AGAIN, FEELING BETTER, NEAR 50 APPROACHING THE MID FIFTIES THIS AFTERNOON. AND THEN IT GETS CHILLY HEADING INTO THIS EVENING NEAR 60 TOMORROW. SOME LOW AND MID-FIFTIES ON SUNDAY. A BIT OF A BREAK ON MONDAY. AND THEN IT LOOKS LIKE WE’LL HAVE SOME SHOWERS TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, KIND OF SOME COOL WEATHER EXPECTED THROUGH THE THE MIDDLE PART OF THE WEEK. EVEN ON THURSDAY. IT LOOKS LIKE THE CHANCE FOR SOME RAIN WILL CONTINUE. ALL RIGHT, THA

Does it rain all weekend? Not at all.

Last weekend brought a nice Saturday but a damp, cool Sunday. Expect a near repeat of that scenario: dry Saturday, rainy Sunday. Saturday starts cold and dry and ends a little milder: in the 50s with a partly sunny sky and a southwest wind around 10-15 miles per hour.

Rain picks up again Sunday, but it will not rain all day long. Showers begin by early afternoon and last through Sunday night: keeping it a little cooler (40s to low-50s for daytime highs).

The heaviest rain over the weekend (those who get around or more than an inch) likely ends up near and south of US 82: roughly a line from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery southward. Dry, chilly air stuck over northeastern Alabama to the Birmingham metro area may reduce the amount over-all rainfall Sunday. Lighter amounts still add up to around 0.25” to 0.5” by Sunday night.

SEVEN DAY FORECAST

Heavier rain ends early Monday morning, and it’s dry and mild on Monday afternoon ahead of a challenging weather setup for next week.

An Arctic air mass edges closer to Alabama Monday and Tuesday. As it starts to trickle in from the northwest, it loses momentum and splits the state: half much colder, half much warmer (30s in Northwest Alabama Tuesday and 60s southeast of Birmingham).

That boundary becomes the focus for several days of rainy weather and a headache of a temperature forecast. Tuesday and Wednesday of next week could see a range of 20 degrees over one hundred miles of distance: from near 40 in The Shoals to near 60 south of Birmingham.

We will also be on the lookout for sneaky wintry weather in North Alabama. Arkansas and Tennessee have a much better chance of some snow and ice, but it could be a close call for the northwestern part of Alabama as well.
