(WPBN/WGTU) -- WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Leelanau, Benzie, Manistee, Mason, Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, western Chippewa, western Mackinac, and Luce Counties this afternoon and evening. Traveling will be slower than normal because of the blowing snow and build up of snow on the roads.
Today the wind and snow are the story. This afternoon the wind will gust to 35 mph for anyone on the map in northern Michigan, but along the shoreline of the Great Lakes the gusts could be 45 mph. It'll come from the south. Snow totals this afternoon and evening will be up to 4 inches in the Lower Peninsula west of I-75. Not as much in the Lower east of I-75.
In the Upper Peninsula 3 to 4 inches will be common, but lake effect snow there will add to the totals tonight. High temperatures will be from 28 to 35 degrees.
Tonight the wind and snow will be with us in the early evening. The snow will wind down...and the wind gusts will be higher before midnight. Gusts will be up to 35 mph, and the wind will turn to the west. Be aware of blowing snow. Visibility will be a problem for drivers. Low temperatures from 12 to 22 degrees...but it will feel like it's around zero in some towns with the wind chills.
Saturday will be cloudy and cold, and some us get a passing snow shower. Wind will be from the northwest 10 to 20 mph. Highs from 15 to 25 degrees.
Saturday night most of us get a light snow shower, but south of Cadillac the snow will be heavier. The farther south you are, the more snow you'll see. Around Reed City, for example, you could see three inches of snow. Temperatures will be in the 5 to 20 degree range. Light wind.
