NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A suspicious package that was found outside a high school in North Charleston and prompted an emergency e-learning day has been deemed safe.
The North Charleston Police Department and Charleston County Bomb Squad responded to North Charleston High School shortly after 4:30 a.m. after receiving a call regarding a suspicious package.
North Charleston High School and Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies moved to an e-learning day due to the investigation.
“Staff members, school administrators will be in touch as soon as possible to confirm work plans for this day. Families, once staff members have coordinated their work plans, they will be in touch with your students electronically to explain how students are learning today. Please be on the lookout for communication,” the district said in a message to parents. “We realize this is a significant inconvenience. Our most important priority is the safety of the school community.”
NCPD spokesman Harve Jacobs said officers cleared the scene just before 7:00 a.m. and reopened all surrounding streets.
The investigation is ongoing.
