Just enough snow fell overnight to blanket roadways, parking lots and driveways, making the morning commute slower than normal and reminding us we're in the midst of winter in Western New York.

About 2.5 inches of snow accumulated at the Buffalo Airport as of early Friday morning according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kirk Apfel. "The good news is most of the snow from this last wave is done. We’ll still see an additional inch or two through mid-morning."

Apfel says it's all pretty typical for January in Buffalo as temperatures actually hover around normal or perhaps even a little above normal. "It’s going to be slow to melt, we’re still sitting just a hair below freezing."

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the southern portion of Erie County and Wyoming County through midday Friday.

Some additional light snow is forecast Friday night and some snow, possibly mixed with rain, is in the Sunday forecast.
