A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody after a shooting on Wednesday afternoon on the 900 block of Seymour Avenue in Linden.
Police say the suspect was involved in an on-going dispute with another teenager. The two boys allegedly agreed to meet after school, according to police, at which time the suspect pulled a gun and fired off several rounds.
Police say two bullets struck a 36-year-old man, the father of the other student, who was taken to Newark University Hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
"Gun violence has no place in our city, particularly among our children,” Linden police chief David Hart said. “We are very proud of the work done and we will continue to aggressively prosecute anyone who jeopardizes the safety of our community with senseless acts of violence."
Police say the teenager was found at a Linden home and then taken into custody. He faces a variety of gun-related charges and is being held in the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
The shooting is being investigated. Anyone with information can contact Linden police at 908-474-8520.
