The Marion County Board of Supervisors met with department heads Thursday to discuss proposed budgets for several departments.

The budget of  Marion County Development, Zoning, Treasurer, Health Insurance, Sheriff, Attorney and more were discussed.

Several of the departments have been restricted over the years as being a one-person department. Carla Eysink presented the budget for Development. In looking ahead, Eysink is looking at retiring in early 2025. Salary for Eysink’s position lags behind a person with her experience and she would like to see a replacement hired for training.

Zoning is another department shy of staff, with just one person in place. The job is also becoming more demanding every year.

For the most part the Treasurer’s Office has covered expenses over the past year according to Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette. County retention of funds showed revenue of $402,751 and expenses of $341,240 minus salaries. Bigaouette said her full budget only went up two percent from a year ago.

Budget hearings are expected to wrap-up today with the Board of Supervisors meeting slated to start at 9 a.m.
