Rochester, N.Y. — A woman in her 70s was found dead after a fire on the city's west side Friday morning.
Firefighters found the woman's body on the third floor of a home with nine apartment units on Hancock Street.
Police said the initial call to the home was for a domestic dispute around 4 a.m., followed by a report of a fire shortly thereafter.
Firefighters were told someone was trapped on the third floor, but they were unable to reach the third floor and had to exit the home and fight the fire from the outside.
Crews made it up to third floor and found the woman's body after the fire was declared under control.
One firefighter had to be treated for burns but is recovering. Two other people were treated for smoke inhalation. Everyone else escaped safely before crews arrived.
Police are investigating the potential link between the domestic call and the fire, but they said the woman found dead lived elsewhere in the building and had no connection to the domestic incident.
The home is a total loss and will have to be torn down.
No suspects are in custody. Police are working to interview witnesses to figure out what caused the fire.
