CLEVELAND, Ohio — The lake-effect snow didn’t pile up too high in the snow belt east of Cleveland, but some areas did have nearly 5 inches on the ground as of Thursday night and that total could increase by Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, Auburn Township in Geauga County had 4.8 inches on the ground as of 8 p.m. Thursday. Highland Heights had 4 inches and Hiram in Portage County had 3.8 inches.
A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties until 7 a.m. Friday. Lake-effect snow could drop another 2 inches on the ground overnight, forecasts say.
Although recent snowfall totals were not available for some areas, Shaker Heights and Auburn Township lead the area with 6 inches on the ground, including previous snowfalls. Concord Township in Lake County has 5 inches on the ground and Hiram has 6 inches.
