A Columbia man has been arrested after McCormick deputies caught him attempting to deliver drugs to inmates, according to the SC Department of Corrections (SCDC).
Officials accused 24-year-old Arnez Thompson on Thursday of attempting to use a drone to fly fentanyl, marijuana, tobacco, cell phones and other items to inmates at McCormick Correctional Institute.
Law Enforcement discovered Thompson while investigating the area around the prison after past instances where drones were used to bring inmates contraband, according to arrest warrants.
Officials said Thompson was seen near two bags containing a Drone and marijuana.
After detaining Thompson, his backpack was confiscated and in it, deputies found 113 grams of Fentanyl, about four pounds of marijuana, six pounds of tobacco, cell phones. cigarettes, cigars, rolling papers, lights and other items, official records said.
Thompson was arrested and charged with trafficking more than 28 grams of in heroin, morphine, etc., possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, criminal conspiracy, and providing contraband to prisoners.
