College tuition is on the rise for some in Illinois this academic year – but for those attending the University of Illinois Springfield, that hike will not be felt. Meanwhile, for incoming freshmen at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, as well as Chicago, students’ personal budgets will likely be more constrained than ever before.
The U of I Board of Trustees recently approved a 1.9% increase in tuition for the Urbana-Champaign and Chicago campuses.
For Urbana-Champaign, a full-time student would $12,712 a year, an increase of $238.
UIS will continue to charge $321.50 per credit hour; under Illinois law, tuition rates for incoming freshmen are then locked in for the next four years.
