Man suggests original owner of dirt bike may have stolen it back: Mayfield Police Blotter

Suspicious activity: Aintree Park Drive

A 19-year-old resident reported Jan. 18 that his dirt bike had been stolen from an open garage at his apartment complex.

Upon investigation, officers learned that the resident had bought the bike online and kept it a short while before listing it for sale on Facebook Marketplace. He was contacted by a man claiming the bike was originally his and that it was stolen from him, suggesting that the resident had bought a stolen bike.

It was subsequently learned that the original owner took the bike from the open garage without permission. It was not clear how he retrieved it.

The incident is under investigation.

Fraud: Village Trail

A resident reported Jan. 17 that he had received a call from a collection agency and learned that three Dominion gas accounts had been opened in his name with his company’s address.

The accounts were opened in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights and Cleveland. He said he did not open any of them.

The accounts had a total debt of over $3,000. Police are investigating.

Disturbance: Aintree Park Drive

A woman reported loud music with bass reverberating through the walls of her apartment at 10:11 p.m. Jan. 17. Responding officers located the source of the music and advised the resident to lower the volume.

Suspicious vehicle: North Commons Boulevard

Officers checked on a suspicious vehicle with fogged windows in the parking lot near Parkview Pool around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and found it occupied by a 20-year-old man.

The man said he had run away from home and was going to sleep there for the night. Officers advised him to find somewhere to sleep.

Suspicious activity: Foxboro Drive

Around 3:15 a.m. Jan. 23, officers responded to a report of a pickup truck stopped in the roadway and somebody trying to enter vehicles in the area.

Officers located the truck and attempted a traffic stop, but it fled at a high rate of speed. Pursuit was terminated for safety reasons. It was unknown how many occupants were inside.

It was later confirmed that the truck had been stolen out of Cleveland and had been involved in a recent auto theft in South Euclid, but officers from that city had lost sight of it due to weather conditions.

Disturbance: North Commons Boulevard

Officers received a report Jan. 23 of a man using his vehicle to block in his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle at her place of work at an assisted living home. The staff had asked him to leave, but he refused.

Responding officers located the Cleveland Heights man, 28, and sent him on his way. He was advised that if he ever returned to the property, he would be arrested for trespassing.
