PHILADELPHIA, Penn. – Harvard women’s swim and dive remained undefeated in dual competition with a 187-113 team victory at Penn on Saturday. The Crimson move to 6-0 with the result in Philadelphia after an impressive day at the pool that included top finishes in 14 of the 16 event on the day.

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

Diving

  • Harvard took the top three spots in the one-meter diving event as Nina JanmyrAmy Wotovich and Katie Laverty came out with 313.73, 301.95 and 289.58 scores, respectively.
  • Elizabeth Miclau finished in the top spot in the three-meter diving event with a season-best 318.60 finishing score.

Swimming

  • Kaia Li had three first-place finishes on the afternoon in 200 medley, 100 breast stroke and 200 breast stroke events.
  • Li teamed up with Aleksandra DenisenkoSydney Lu and Darlene Fung to finish first overall with a time of 1:43.9 in the 200 medley.
  • Samantha Shelton was under a second off a career best in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.62 which was good for the first-place finish.
  • Anya Mostek had another top finish for the Crimson in the 100 backstroke, clocking in at 54.20.
  • Mostek added another win in the 100 freestyle with a time of 50.65, .56 seconds off her personal best this season (50.10)
  • Sydney Lu had the second-best Crimson time this season in the 200 butterfly at 2:02.18 which was good for a first-place finish.
  • Mandy Brenner and Darlene Fung finished first and second, respectively in the 50 freestyle event, adding 13 points onto the team score.
  • Maggie Buckley and Kate Hazlett ran away with a first and second place finish, respectively, in the 200 backstroke event.
  • Mostek, Fung, Lu and Molly Hamlin registered a three-second victory with a time of 3:26.51 in the 400 freestyle relay. The time was the second-best this year in the event for Harvard.

The women’s swim and dive squad is back in action for its final tune-up before the Ivy League Championships when it takes one Yale and Princeton next weeked. Start times are set for 6:00 PM on Saturday night (Jan. 28) and 12:00 PM on Sunday (Jan. 29). The match will also serve as the women’s swim and dive senior meet.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Harvard men’s swimming and diving continued its unbeaten run in dual Ivy meets, defeating Penn on the road, 193-106. With the meet win, Harvard improved to 5-0 (5-0 Ivy) on the year, while the Quakers fell to 4-4-1 (2-4-1 Ivy).

The Crimson won 12 of 16 events on the day, with Adam Wesson sweeping the diving events, and Gunner Grant (100 and 200 back) picking up two victories on the day. Wesson recoded his best 1-meter diving score of the season (356.78).

PHILADELPHIA – It was a Senior Day to remember for Catherine Buroker Saturday afternoon at Sheerr Pool, as the University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming and diving team fell to Harvard, 187-113.

The Quakers fell to 4-5 overall and 2-5 in Ivy meets in the final conference meet of the regular season. The Crimson improve to 6-0 overall on the year.

*Buroker notched victories in both the 500 (4:58.37) and 1,000-yard freestyle (9:58.85) to pace Penn’s swimmers. Both events turned out to be podium sweeps for the Quakers as Amelia Girotto (5:00.19) took home second and Anna Kalandadze (5:00.46) third in the 500 free. Kalandadze finished just behind Sydney Bergstrom (10:05.45) with a time of 10:09.88 in the 1,000 free.

*Vanessa Chong also tallied a pair of wins in the 100-yard butterfly (56.10) and the 200 IM (2:05.51).

*Chong also finished second in the 200 fly (2:02.32) while Emma Stolberg swam a 2:05.71 to finish third.

*Aside from Bergstrom, Girotto and Chong, Abby Wickersham also found herself with a runner-up finish, claiming second in the 100 free with a time of 51.53.

*Sophie Henriksen finished third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.23) with Wickersham also getting third in the 50 free (23.99). Margot Kaczorowski got third in the 100 free (51.95), while on the diving board, Olivia Francella picked up a third-place finish in the three meter (279.53).

*In the 400 free relay, Wickersham, Smith, Anna Moehn and Kaczorowski placed second (3:29.17) with Lyndsey Reeve, Stolberg, Camryn Carter and Bergstrom (3:44.09) getting third. Chong, Boeckman, Smith and Kaczorowski clocked in at 1:46.12 to finish third in the 200 medley relay.

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Matthew Fallon won three individual events despite the University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team’s 193-106 loss to Harvard Saturday morning at Sheerr Pool on Senior Day.

The Quakers (4-4-1, 2-4-1 Ivy) won four total events, three for Fallon and one for Andrew Dai as the Crimson improved to 6-0 overall in 2023.

*Fallon took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.29), also claiming wins in the 200 breast (2:00.05) and 400-yard individual medley (3:51.53), highlighting a 1-2-3 finish for the Quakers with Jason Schreiber (4:00.12) coming in second and Kevin Keil (4:01.30) placing third.

*Dai swam a 1:50.53 to capture first place in the 200-yard butterfly.

*Schreiber tallied one of Penn’s four second-place finishes as Daniel Gallagher swam a 1:49.00 in the 200-yard backstroke, Matt Leblanc was runner-up to Fallon in the 200 breast (2:05.82) and diver Jack Williams scored a 335.63 in the one meter.

*Penn had a litany of swimmers place third in Truman Armstrong in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:37.78) and 500 free (4:36.57), Jack Hamilton in the 100 back (50.43), Matthew Dieffenthaller in the 50 free (21.05), James Curreri in the 200 back (1:54.78), Alex Fu in the 100 free (49.71), Williams in the three-meter dive (342.38) and Keil in the 400 IM (4:01.30).

*Hamilton, Fallon, Fu and Ben Feldman swam a 1:31.12 to finish third in the 200 medley relay. Fu, Dai, Hamilton and Feldman also placed third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:04.33.

*The Quakers honored seniors Matthew DieffenthallerJack HamiltonMark McCraryTrevor NelsonNeil Simpson and Eric Wang with a pre-meet ceremony.
