The Star on the Mountain will be lit Thursday and Friday in honor of the late El Paso police chief Greg Allen.
The El Paso Chamber made the announcement.
Officials with the El Paso Chamber said they are mourning the passing of Allen but celebrating his life's impact on the community to serve the city of El Paso.
Allen died on January 17 after recovering from a medical procedure.
He was 71.
Allen was the El Paso police chief for 15 years after he served as a police officer for 40 years.
The tribute for the late El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen is scheduled for Thursday evening.
It's happening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Judson F. Williams Convention Center located at 1 Civic Center Plaza.
Allen will be lying in-state to allow the public to pay their respects.
The remembrance ceremony will include guest speakers.
The funeral service for Allen will be held Friday at Abundant Church at 11 a.m. followed by a burial at Evergreen East Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
