A dog rescued from drowning a couple of weeks ago has reunited with its owner after he saw the pup on News 13.
A spokesperson with Asheville Humane Society said Thursday, Jan. 26 that the 20-pound poodle mix is now microchipped and back with family after the harrowing ordeal.
A couple of weeks ago, Benzo (formerly Riu) was rescued after two women walking along the French Broad River saw the pup run into the water.
After calling Asheville Animal Services for help, they saw the dog struggle and start to go under. So, one of the women jumped in to save Benzo.
"We are blown away by the heroics of those two women," Sarah Stapleton, with Asheville Humane Society, said, during a News 13 report of the rescue on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
In an emailed update, Stapleton encouraged owners to get their pets microchipped.
"Microchips are your pet's return address! If you would like your pet microchipped, the Buncombe County Animal Shelter can provide that service for $15.00 during the Shelter's regular business hours, with no appointment needed," she said in a written statement.
