‘Percy Jackson’ Disney+ Series Expands Cast With Lance Reddick and Toby Stephens

The Percy Jackson cast is expanding! It has been announced that Lance Reddick and Toby Stephens have joined the cast of the upcoming live-action Disney+ series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The news was shared on the show’s Twitter account, which stated that Reddick and Stephens will star as Zeus and Poseidon respectively. The two gods, along with Hades, play crucial roles in the book series. Zeus is the god of the sky and leader of Mount Olympus. “Zeus is tempestuous and mistrustful. He’s promised to wage a war if his stolen thunderbolt is not returned,” reads a character description obtained by Variety. The outlet also gives insight into Poseidon, who is Percy’s father and the god of the sea. The character is described as: “Although seemingly absent in Percy’s life, many of Poseidon’s qualities live in Percy; stubbornness, impulsiveness and loyalty. Though he has stayed away throughout Percy’s life, his deep feelings for his son (and Percy’s mother, Sally) are evident.” Walker Scobell will led the cast as Percy, with Aryan Simhadri as Grover, and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth. Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Timothy Omundson, and Jay Duplass have all been previously announced as cast members. The series is based on the  best-selling book series by Rick Riordan. Disney+ writes that the show will tell “the fantastical story of a 12-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt.” The synopsis teases that Percy will “embark on an adventure of a lifetime” with his friends, Grover and Annabeth, to find the lighting bolt and return it to its rightful owner.
