As 2023 is still only in the first month, the year has already claimed the lives of three Baltimore teens, under the age of 17.
On New Year's, a 17-year-old girl was killed, only three days later a 16-year-old lost their life, and on Wednesday a 15-year-old was fatally shot in west Baltimore.
In 2022, 15 teens under the age of 17 were shot and killed in Baltimore.
More disturbing, since 2019, over 80 teens have been killed in Baltimore.
Kinji Scott is a community activist, who says the Juvenile Justice Reform Act is not working.
“What we have legislatively is not what we see in our streets," said Scott.
Scott also says city leaders have gotten too comfortable with the teen bloodshed, while families are dealing with the reality.
“To see the mayor standing out in front of the police commissioner, supporting him with his chest out. But you have a mother and a father at the funeral home with their heads down," said Scott.
