Amber Alert discontinued for 3-month-old boy from Kaufman County

KEMP, Texas (KLTV) - An East Texas infant at the focus of a statewide Amber Alert was found safe in North Carolina early Friday.

According to Kemp Police, 3-month-old Xyavier Calliste, Jr. and his mother, Abigail Williams, were located at a bus station in Fayetteville, North Carolina around 2:00 a.m.

Williams, 23, was taken into custody and charged with Interfering with Child Custody. She will remain in North Carolina until she is extradited to Texas, a news release stated.

An Amber Alert was issued on Thursday after Kemp Police responded to a report of a possible abduction involving the 15-week-old and his mother, who were staying at a domestic violence shelter for abused mothers and their children.

The child was in the legal custody of Child Protective Services (CPS), ordered by Smith County. While the mother was allowed to come and go, the order required the child to stay at the shelter.

Officers were told Williams arrived at the shelter on Sunday and was last seen leaving with him around 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Investigators were able to track Williams to Dallas, then heading east, presumably on a bus, according to police.

The baby is on prescription medication that must be taken with formula, both of which were left behind at the shelter. Kemp Police said he is safe and sound and will be kept with North Carolina’s Child Protective Services for the time being.

“It is unknown if the biological father who is from North Carolina but has ties to Smith Co. and the Dallas area has any connection to the Interfering with a Child Custody incident,” an earlier news release stated.

The Fayetteville, NC Police Department, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office, Texas DPS, Texas Rangers, and the FBI all assisted in the investigation.
