The Sand Spring Fire Department had a unique rescue Thursday.

Firefighters received a call about a missing dog. SSFD said the owners were tracking the Great Pyrenees named Merlin but were unable to reach his location.
Merlin was on the back side of Shell Lake, which is northwest of Sand Springs. The best way to retrieve Merlin was by boat, SSFD decided.
They said they deployed a single company with one boat and were able to load up the 140-pound dog onto their small boat and bring him back to his owners.

"Merlin was a good boy and gave us a great opportunity for an impromptu training exercise," said SSFD Fire Marshal Mike Nobles.
