The Lord of the Rings stars Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd are reuniting for a travel show.

The pair, who played Merry and Pippin respectively in Peter Jackson's iconic trilogy, have regularly collaborated since The Return of the King in 2003, and have now teamed up for a new venture.

Announcing Billy and Dom Eat the World via their social media with a short video, the new project will be a television series which sees the pair "travel the world, meet incredible people and eat some delicious food," with the latter keeping them in touch with their "Hobbity roots".

Boyd, who last year appeared in the second season of Chucky, said in a statement: "Dom and I met in New Zealand while making the Lord of The Rings Trilogy, we travelled all over that beautiful country, meeting incredible people and seeing a completely different lifestyle from where we grew up.

"It is so exciting to now take that passion we have for travel and new experiences into this TV show," he continued. "Like the Hobbits of Tolkien's Middle Earth, we know how important food is in discovering a new culture and getting to know new people. This show with Daniel Sharp and Martin Blencowe will show the less travelled streets, incredible and hidden food and the magical people of our world. It's time for an adventure!"

Monaghan, who also had a starring role in Lost, said: "I have known Billy for over 20 years and in that time have been lucky enough to travel with him extensively. Since The Return of the King [we've] been looking for something new to do on screen together that people who follow our careers may enjoy.

"Alongside Daniel Sharp at Dash Pictures and Martin Blencowe we think we have found the perfect group to capture the infectious way we both see the world through food," he concluded.

Since the conclusion of the trilogy, Boyd and Monaghan co-host The Friendship Onion podcast, whilst Boyd guest-appeared on Monaghan's nature show, Wild Things. It is currently unknown which broadcaster or streaming service will pick up Billy and Dom Eat the World, and what stage of development it is in.
