Kenny Gonzalez of New Bedford sentenced to 10-12 years for fentanyl trafficking

The Fall River Superior Court sentenced Kenny Gonzalez of New Bedford to serve 10 to 12 years in state prison for trafficking fentanyl, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced Thursday.

On Sept. 15, 2022, New Bedford police executed a search warrant at the Nash Road public housing apartment Gonzalez was living in with his girlfriend and her two young children, Quinn’s office said.

An extensive investigation into a fentanyl delivery service run by Gonzalez led to police obtaining a warrant, Quinn’s office said. Officers found a lockbox and a safe both containing fentanyl in the children’s bedroom. Several digital scales, a drug ledger, three cell phones, packaging materials and cut corner bags were also found.

Gonzalez was then placed under arrest for possessing just under 600 grams of fentanyl, Quinn’s office said.

“The defendant was found with a significant amount of fentanyl, a poisonous drug that is contributing to a significant amount of death and misery in our county,” Quinn said in a statement. “Given the volume of drugs he was selling as part of his fentanyl delivery service, he clearly is a danger and needs to be kept off the street.”

His arrest came 18 months after he was released from a New York prison, Quinn’s office said. Gonzalez had served a sentence in New York after he was convicted of first-degree manslaughter with intent to cause serious physical injury.

Judge Sharon Donatelle imposed Gonzalez’s 10-to-12-year sentence.
