State Police search Quaboag River in Palmer

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – Several State Police cruisers and a helicopter were called to Palmer on North Main Street Thursday afternoon.

Around 11:45 a.m. a person reported seeing a suspicious object floating down the Quaboag River near the Monson, Palmer town line, according to Monson Police. Shortly after, two other eyewitnesses reported seeing the object in the river. Crews from Monson and Palmer fire and police departments began searching for the object.

State Police Trooper James DeAngelis told 22News crews were called in for what was described as a report of a possible body floating in the Quaboag River. Several troopers, a helicopter, and a dive team searched the river.

Within a few hours of searching, State Police found the same item that was reported by the three eyewitnesses and discovered that it was just a partially inflated snow tube.

Trooper DeAngelis told 22News State Police left the area by 3:05 p.m.
