Once Upon a Time stars Ethan Embry and Sunny Mabrey have joined the cast of Gotham Knights, The CW's upcoming Batman spin-off.

The real-life married couple will also portray husband and wife on the series, with Mabrey first appearing as Crystal Brown in episode five and Embry making his debut as Arthur Brown in episode six (via Deadline).

Crystal is described as the elegant wife of a local celebrity, though her sunny disposition often turns cold as she battles a secret addiction that threatens to ruin the lives of her whole family.

Her husband, Arthur, is the eccentric host of a gameshow similar to Jeopardy, always charming and popular in the local town.

But a dark side lurks beneath the surface, with Arthur going to great lengths to keep his family's personal lives hidden from the public, even if it means breaking some rules along the way.

"We were blown away by Sunny’s audition for Gotham Knights. It was immediately clear she had the expansive emotional range needed to play this deeply polarising character," showrunners Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux said in a joint statement.

"And then we were delighted to discover that Sunny’s husband is an actor who has many fans among our cast, crew and writers. Ethan’s brought Arthur to life in such rich, delightfully disturbing ways.

"We hope to surprise fans of the mythos with where our story is going, though we’ll give you a clue… Quiz Bowl airs weeknights in Gotham."

Ethan and Sunny played Greg Mendell and Glinda respectively on Once Upon a Time.

Gotham Knights takes place in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne's death. When Wayne's adopted son (Oscar Morgan) and the offspring of Batman's enemies are falsely accused of killing him, these burgeoning superheroes establish an unlikely alliance in order to protect themselves and the city.

Gotham Knights premieres on The CW this year.
