The family of a 21-year-old man who died in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail Thursday demanded more transparency.
Brieon Green’s family, their legal team, and the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (MAARPR) spoke out about what it saw when reviewing the surveillance video at the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
Green's family wants that video released publicly, saying his death could've been prevented.
"I want accountability. I want justice. I want the truth to come out. I want the people to see what we saw," Green's mother, Laquita Dunlap said.
MAARPR also talked about their meeting with Sheriff Denita Ball last week.
In a news release sent by MAARPR, they say Green's death was preventable.
One correctional officer failed to do an adequate wellness check on Green, which could have prevented his death. The next wellness check for Green came 37 minutes later.
Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office spokesman told WISN 12 News that corrections officers check on inmates about every 30 minutes. The state of Wisconsin requires inmates to be checked on every 60 minutes.
On Tuesday, jail officials released edited video of Green's arrest.
The video from inside the jail isn't being released. Jail officials said sharing it would jeopardize the security of the jail's inner operations.
