A New Milford man who police say stole a truck from a Plainville rental company – convincing another man to rent it in his name – has been sentenced to prison on larceny charges.

Frank Scalia, 35, faced sentencing in a number of cases this week, though the Plainville matter was not prosecuted in light of his guilty pleas in a number of other cases.

The 35-year-old received a 30-month prison sentence during a hearing in New Britain Superior Court. In that matter, he pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree larceny stemming from an arrest in Bristol in October 2019.

Additional details about the Bristol arrest were not immediately available Thursday.

According to Plainville police, the manager at the Plainville U-Haul called authorities in April and told investigators that a $38,000 moving truck had been rented and never returned. Police, in the warrant for Scalia’s arrest, said they were able to determine that the truck had not been rented in Scalia’s name.

Instead, investigators wrote in the warrant, the now-35-year-old convinced another person to rent the truck on behalf of him. The vehicle, which was rented on April 8, was supposed to be returned that evening. Police said the truck was recovered in Newington on April 18.

According to the warrant, Scalia has been restricted from renting U-Haul trucks, as he owes more than $10,000 from prior rentals. He has also been previously arrested multiple times on larceny charges.
