Tyler ISD board approves Beau Trahan as new head coach for Tyler Legacy
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The Tyler ISD board has approved Beau Trahan as the new head coach for Tyler Legacy High School.
Trahan comes from the University of Tulsa, where he was the co-passing game coordinator coach.
Trahan also spent eight years on athletics staff at Baylor. He was a four-year letterman at the University of Texas from 1999-2002, where he played quarterback and safety.
“This has been a dream of mine for a long, long time, to be a head football coach in Texas,” Trahan said to the board following the announcement. “Thanks for getting me out of Oklahoma by the way.”
He replaces Joe Willis, who announced his retirement earlier this month.
“We went into this process to find a charismatic leader with a track record of innovative and successful coaching experiences that evolved into winning programs that weren’t ready-baked when he arrived,” Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said. “We are excited to bring a Texas high school football coaching legacy of Coach Trahan’s caliber, football acumen, and engaging personality to the Tyler ISD Board.”
Crawford explained that Trahan would be able to excite student-athletes at all levels.
“We are going to pour everything we have in these kids,” Trahan said. “From the junior high, to sub-varsity, to varsity levels, I want these kids to be ‘can’t wait’ to be Red Raiders.”
“I am excited to have Beau Trahan take over as the leader of the Tyler Legacy football program,” Athletic Director Greg Priest said. “He has learned under and worked with some of the best minds in football. He is a football coach’s son and understands the expectations and commitment it takes to be successful. Beau will bring energy and an exciting brand of football to the program and be a great asset to Tyler Legacy and this community.”
“We’re going to cut these guys loose and let them play,” Trahan said. “Last time I checked, this is still a game and we’re going to have fun. We’re going to be fast and physical.”
“When speaking with members of the Tyler Legacy Football community, they are ready to embrace a coach that prioritizes high-value experiences for every student-athlete in the program,” Crawford said. “And a person who is also committed to the work it takes for winning outcomes not only on Friday nights but when any Red Raider (or Husky Raider or Gator Raider) team lines up on the field any day of the week. We’re excited to partner with Coach Beau to make that happen. He is excited about the resources and assets we employ to execute his 6-12 transformational football plan with positivity and trustworthy steadiness.”
Following his playing career, Trahan launched his collegiate coaching career in 2003 as a graduate assistant on the defensive side of the ball at Texas. He assisted with coaching the defensive backs and special teams. From UT, Trahan joined the coaching staff at the University of Houston in 2004 as an offensive graduate assistant coach, coaching under Philip Montgomery. He coached tight ends for the Cougars and assisted with coaching the special teams. From 2005-08, Trahan was an assistant coach at Dickinson High School, where he coached the quarterbacks and served as co-offensive coordinator under his father, legendary Warren “Bull” Trahan.
Coach Trahan comes to Tyler with his wife, Lauren, and two daughters, Abigail and Anne.
