Culver's makes a switch, plus closings and 2023 plans

Welcome to the Streetwise Newsletter, where the news comes and finds you!

Last week we learned through my colleague Becky Jacobs' story that Culver's is switching from Pepsi to Coca-Cola products. Don't worry — the restaurant's Signature Root Beer and teas are here to stay.

Speaking of burgers, a Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is coming to Green Bay. I got to learn more about this company and its plans for its second Wisconsin location.

Unfortunately, not all chain restaurants survived 2022. The new year started with two lots empty on Main Street, on the east side of Green Bay. Almost across from each other, Kentucky Fried Chicken and Subway have closed.

Also, as I said in a previous newsletter, we talked with business district leaders Jeff Mirkes and his team at Downtown Green Bay as well as Brian Johnson with On Broadway. They spoke about how the year was in terms of business growth and goals and expectations for 2023.

Finally, if you didn't see my story earlier this week asking for your favorite restaurant or go-to place for soup and chili, you still have time to send me your picks. I'll add them to a final story with all the other great suggestions I've received.

If you have any questions or tips for future stories, please don't hesitate to email me at aperez1@gannett.com, and if you have enjoyed my or any of my colleagues' reporting, please consider subscribing to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. You'll gain access to more great stories while supporting local journalism.
