The final tour of a Heritage and History program in El Paso wraps up next week.
Corazón, Historia, y Raíces will come to an end at the El Paso County Coliseum.
The program celebrates moments in El Paso history that may have gone un-noticed.
The final tour will consist of musical performances and conversations about the history of the county coliseum.
"I'm really happy to see that the county is putting emphasis on our heritage and this program, and expanding that in precinct 2," David Stout, El Paso County Commissioner for Precinct 2.
Over the years, the county coliseum hosted musical performers like Selena, Elvis Presley, Louie Armstrong, Juan Gabriel, the Jackson Five, Duke Ellington, Johnny Cash, Perez Prado’s Mambo Orchestra, and Ike & Tina Turner.
When the county coliseum first opened during World War II it served as an Italian Prisoner of War camp.
The Coliseum made other kinds of history as well.
It served as a Bracero reception center, the site of a Democratic fund-raiser for John F. Kennedy, the Raza Unida Conference, and recently, a rally site for Donald Trump.
The public is invited to check out the program Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The evening will begin with a musical performance by Los Liminals.
Dr. David Romo will give a history talk about the many layers of history found in the County Coliseum.
This will be followed by a performance by Azucar who will play a medley of the “greatest hits” played at the Coliseum.
The Coliseum Tour will include a backstage look at the dressing room where musical legends once stood.
