Kyrie Irving has been a force for the Nets since returning from his suspension earlier this season, and is in line to make another All-Star appearance.

With Irving stabilizing himself in Brooklyn after missing much of last season due to his refusal to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and serving his team-imposed suspension for promoting a video filled with antisemitism, he is making it known that he wants to remain with the Nets long term.

“Around Kyrie and staying with the Nets? I have reached out to the Nets regarding this," Irving's agent Shetellia Irving told Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report. "We have had no significant conversations to date. The desire is to make Brooklyn home, with the right type of extension, which means the ball is in the Nets' court to communicate now if their desire is the same.”

Irving made it known over the summer that he wanted to remain with the Nets, after he was given permission to seek trades in a dramatic month that saw Kevin Durant also request a trade. But a trade never happened, and neither did a long-term deal, as he signed his one-year option with Brooklyn reluctant to commit long term to a player who had just sat out nearly two thirds of the season. Irving is eligible for a four-year deal at nearly $200 million, but it is unclear if his recent production is enough to convince the Nets to make that kind of commitment.

Irving is averaging 26.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game this season, and would become an unrestricted free agent this summer if he and the Nets can’t agree on a deal.
