‘The View’ Interrupted by an On-Air Fart, Much to the Delight of Alyssa Farah Griffin

The View can get heated and loud at the Hot Topics table, but an especially unusual noise interrupted yesterday’s broadcast, much to the surprise of viewers and the co-hosts themselves. During a political debate on the Wednesday (Jan. 25) show, Whoopi Goldberg and her View co-stars were interrupted by what can only be described as a fart sound. The flatulent interruption came at a rather inappropriate time as the panel discussed the recent discovery of classified documents in the home of former vice president Mike Pence. While they raised concerns about nuclear secrets floating around outside of the White House (as is rumored in the case of former president Donald Trump, who has his own document scandal), their somber chat was cut off by some chaos at one end of the table. “Is it true that Trump had nuclear secrets?” Sunny Hostin asked, as Alyssa Farah Griffin — who worked in the Trump White House – replied, “It’s been reported, but we don’t know the specifics.” Right as she finished speaking, Sara Haines exclaimed, “Oop!” and held her sweater out from her body, seemingly shaking off water that had spilled from her mug during the segment. But as she was cleaning up the mess, a mystery fart added further distraction to the conversation. Don’t believe us? Skip to the 4:20 mark in the clip above to hear for yourself. While nobody directly acknowledged the gassy moment, and Haines was keeping busy brushing water off the table with her cue cards, Griffin couldn’t keep a straight face. She let out an awkward laugh as she tried to continue the debate, while explaining t the audience, “We had a little spillage on the other side of the table.” Haines, who was getting some help with the mess from Goldberg, said, “Now it’s on my pants!” which brought out even more laughter from Griffin. The moment brings to mind an infamous View segment from 2014, during which Goldberg admittedly farted, interrupting guest host Ashanti, who was mid-conversation about her refusal to get the flu shot. Goldberg told her co-hosts, “Excuse me!” and even stood up from her chair as then co-host Rosie O’Donnell joked that a “breakfast burrito” was to blame. The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
