Are the Atlanta Hawks building around Trae Young incorrectly?

Do they need to build similarly to how the 76ers built around Allen Iverson?

The Atlanta Hawks have underachieved this season. They're just 25-24 after Wednesday night's win over the Thunder, and many are quick to place blame on either Trae Young or Nate McMillan.

But the real issue could be a bit more complicated than that.

Heavy.com NBA columnist Sean Deveney takes a look at Trae Young's play style, compares him to a Hall of Famer, and wonders if the Hawks should build around Young slightly different than they have been.

"They haven't had the right players. The guys they've invested in haven't been the right fit," says Sean Deveney. "I wouldn't compare him to Iverson in terms of style of play, but the thing that is similar is that you really have to build your team around him, get role players, and I think it's the same with Trae.

"You've got to look at him as somebody who is going to dominate the ball and you've got to find the pieces around him that's going to make him better rather than just taking the best guys possible. You have to have the best guys who are going to accentuate what Trae does," finishes Deveney.

For reference, in 2001 when the 76ers went to the NBA Finals and lost to the Lakers, the most accomplished player alongside Allen Iverson was a 34-year old Dikembe Mutombo. That year the 76ers also featured Eric Snow, Aaron McKie, Tyrone Hill, and Theo Ratliff.

Sean Deveney shared some other thoughts on what's been going o with the Hawks this season and some of the storylines off the court and you can hear those comments by listening to the entire interview below:
