LOCAL SHELBY COUNTY EXTREME OWNER RYAN DAVIS HAS ABOUT EIGHT YEARS OF EXPERIENCE AS A BULL RIDER. HE HOPES TO CONTINUE THE SPORT ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA FOR MANY YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED. I THINK THE SPORT OF RODEO IN WESTERN SPORTS IN GENERAL, BULL RUN IS STILL ONE OF THE TRUE FAMILY SPORTS THAT WE HAVE IN AMERICA. Shelby County Extreme bull riding starts today
More than 30 professional bull riders from across the country will be rolling into Shelby County for an intense battle. Athletes are competing for $18,000 right here in this arena. A lot of them will use this money to keep going to the next big competition.An intense, action-packed show happening in Columbiana as they’ll be bringing the best riders and bucking bulls in the country to compete. Local Shelby County Extreme owner Ryan Davis has about eight years of experience as a bull rider. He hopes to continue the sport across central Alabama for many young people who are interested. “I think the sport of bull riding is still one of the true family sports that we have in America. You wouldn't have to come through those doors and be embarrassed or you wouldn't have to be worried about what your kids are going to see.” Davis said.Each cowboy will attempt to ride their bull for 8 seconds in hopes to score big. If they win, they’ll receive thousands of dollars and a gold buckle. Davis says there are trained riders from ages as young as 16 to 35 years old. The bulls are also well taken care of and trained for competitions like these. Just recently, Davis added a third night to keep the competition going, as the events over the last eight years have sold out here in Shelby County.
