Man in critical condition after being struck by tow truck in Oxford Circle, police say

A man was critically injured after he was struck by a tow truck in Philadelphia, according to police.

Authorities say the incident occurred on the 6400 block of Roosevelt Boulevard in the Oxford Circle section of the city on Thursday morning around 3:15 a.m.

Police say the driver of the flatbed tow truck told investigators he swerved to avoid what he thought was debris in the roadway, causing him to hit the man, who was in the street.

According to officials, the man, who remains a John Doe, sustained head trauma and was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

A fingerprint scanner was taken to the hospital in an effort to identify him, authorities say.
