Lehigh Snaps Holy Cross' Eight-Game Win Streak in Overtime

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's basketball team knocked off a Holy Cross team that was previously undefeated in Patriot League play, 76-74, in overtime Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.

Lehigh is now 10-10 and 6-3 in league play, while Holy Cross is 16-4 (8-1 PL).

"We talked with our team about how we just have to keep going," said head coach Addie Micir. "We've been in a lot of these games, and it's about time we get rewarded for it, right? You've got to get rewarded by playing hard and making plays when it matters, and we did that."

Down two with 11 seconds left in regulation, Lehigh went to Mackenzie Kramer, who hit the game-tying shot for the second time in a week. Holy Cross had two opportunities with three seconds left but couldn't get a shot to fall, forcing overtime.

"She's so clutch," said Frannie Hottinger. "She's like the most clutch player I've ever played with, and it's really awesome to have a teammate like her come up big at the end of the game."

Hottinger hit a jumper to put Lehigh up four with 2:24 seconds left in overtime, but Holy Cross went on a 5-0 run to put themselves back up top. Kramer nailed the eventual game-winning three-pointer with nine seconds left to give Lehigh a 76-74 lead. The Crusaders had an opportunity to force double overtime, but they couldn't hit the equalizer.

Hottinger led all scorers with 30 points, which was just four shy of her career-high (34). She also finished with 11 rebounds to come away with her 12th double-double of the season. Kramer had 21 points and five rebounds. Kramer's biggest rebound of the game came in the final seconds. Kaitlyn Flanagan missed a driving layup, and Kramer was there to grab the board with 0.7 seconds left in the game.

"They're our performance leaders for a reason," Micir said. "They're competitive, they're edgy, and when they can put points on the board, we're really really good."

Senior Anna Harvey was a force, tallying a team-high nine assists and getting the game-tying assist. She also had seven points. First-year Lily Fandre scored nine of her own as well.

Hottinger nailed a three-pointer with 3:50 in the first quarter to put Lehigh up seven, which would be the biggest lead of the game for the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh was up 15-14 after the first frame. The rest of the game would be a back-and-forth battle. There were 18 lead changes and nine ties.

At the half, things were tied at 27. The Crusaders looked like they were going to pull away in the third quarter, holding an eight-point lead with 6:09 to play, but Lehigh was able to cut their eight-point lead in half heading into the fourth quarter.

The Mountain Hawks outscored Holy Cross 24-20 in the final 10 minutes of regulation to force overtime for the second time in a week, but they had to do some work in the final two minutes as they found themselves down by six after Addisyn Cross hit a three-pointer with 1:44 left in the fourth quarter. Lehigh responded with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 68-67 with 60 seconds left.

Lehigh shot 47.4% from the field, while Holy Cross was 44.3%. Even though the Crusaders had 16 more shots than Lehigh tonight, the Mountain Hawks were able to find a way to stay undefeated at home in league play. Lehigh was 11-of-24 from downtown, while the Crusaders were 6-of-19.

Coming into Wednesday's game, Lehigh was second in the nation in free throw percentage. Lehigh made them count from the charity stripe, going 11-of-12 from the free throw line.

The Mountain Hawks will head to Boston University on Saturday for a 4 p.m. game against the Terriers. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with audio coverage on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.
